What Is the Focus?

Focus lets you group campaigns by strategic goal, making evaluation, management, and structure easier.

Answer

The Focus in Segment Management acts as a useful label for grouping campaigns based on their strategic intent. Using Focus makes it easier to analyze campaigns, manage keywords, and create campaign segments.

With Focus, you can assign each campaign a clear strategic direction. This lets you instantly see the goal of any campaign. When creating campaigns, you can select default Foci such as General, Attack, and Defend. You can also create your own custom Foci to match unique strategies.

If you use the {Focus} placeholder in your campaign syntax, the current Focus will automatically appear in the campaign name. This improves clarity and makes management and analysis easier.

The Focus is also helpful for Keyword Management settings. By structuring your campaigns and using Foci, you can ensure that only keywords, search terms, and ASINs within a specific Focus are shifted. This prevents generic keywords from ending up in your brand protection campaigns. For more details on Keyword Management settings, see a separate article.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use the default Foci as a solid base, and add custom Foci only if necessary for special cases.
  • Choose short and clear names for custom Foci to keep things organized.
  • Use the {Focus} placeholder in your campaign syntax to make sorting and analysis easier.
  • Keep the number of custom Foci to a minimum and maintain a logical taxonomy for efficient analysis.
