Overview

The "Target Value" feature lets you set a local target for each chart, which is displayed as a dedicated reference line. Alternatively, you can define global target values for the entire dashboard. A global target value will automatically appear in all charts within a dashboard unless an individual target value is set for a specific chart. The reference line helps you quickly spot deviations from your goal. In scorecard elements, the target value also affects the color display of the metric.

Accessing the Function

You can add local target values directly to a specific chart: Open the desired dashboard and click Actions, then select Configure for the relevant chart.

To define global target values, use the Settings menu: Open the three-dot menu in your dashboard and select Global Target Values.

Step-by-Step Guide

Setting a Local Target Value in a Chart

To set a specific target for a chart, follow these steps:

  1. Open the dashboard, click Actions on your chosen chart, then Configure.
  2. Activate the Enable Target Value toggle to turn this feature on for the selected chart. This is useful when you want this chart to differ from the standard goal.
  3. In the Target Value field, enter your desired value, e.g. 25, 25.00, or any number that matches the metric's unit (such as percent, euro, or units). The value will be interpreted according to the selected metric.

Note: If both a local and a global target value exist, the local setting always takes precedence for that chart.

For agency accounts, note that the option to enable a target value only becomes available after a "Company" is selected.

Managing Global Target Values

To define target values for the whole dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Open your dashboard and go to the three-dot Settings menu.
  2. Select Global Target Values. You will see a list of all maintained KPIs including their target values.
  3. You can edit, remove, or add target values for new metrics here. Each target value is specific to the unit of the metric.
  4. When saved, global target values will automatically show up in all relevant charts unless an individual value has been set. Unsaved changes can be discarded with Cancel, which also closes the dialog.

Note: If a local target value is set for a chart, it will always override the global value for that chart.

Understanding the Target Value in Your Chart

After setup, the top area of the chart will display Target Value: [value] next to the Date Range. In the chart, the target value appears as a horizontal reference line labeled with its value. In charts with multiple metrics, there can be a target line for each KPI if the axes are set up accordingly. In scorecards, the target value determines whether values show red or green, depending on whether your goal is met. When exporting charts, the target value line and its label are usually included.

Settings & Options

In the Dashboard Settings menu, you can access not only Global Target Values but also actions like Export and other dashboard-specific features. This is where you handle key configuration steps for your reports.

Limitations & Special Notes

  • The Global Target Values feature is available only for standard dashboards. AMC or DSP dashboards do not support it.
  • Local target values (per chart) always override global target values (per dashboard).
  • In charts with multiple metrics, you may see more than one target value line depending on the chart setup – otherwise, only one reference line will appear.
  • The target value line is always drawn and rendered with the chart. It is usually included when exporting the chart.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use Global Target Values to provide all team members with a unified reference in each dashboard, and set local target values only for special cases.
  • Make sure to set target values using the correct units and magnitude to avoid confusion.
  • Target value lines can help you spot trends or outliers, especially with highly fluctuating metrics.
  • In multi-KPI charts, always check whether the target value is configured for the correct metric so it appears as intended.
