Overview
A BSR Schedule is an automated plan (“Schedule”) that evaluates performance metrics, especially the Bestseller Rank (BSR), to trigger campaign or product adjustments. You can choose whether the BSR of the main or subcategory should be used. You also define your own value ranges or thresholds to control adjustments to status (such as "activate," "pause"), bids, or budgets, or combinations of these. Optionally, you can set what should happen if a product changes category.
Accessing the Function
You can access the BSR Schedule via the main menu of your tool. Navigate to Management and then to Schedule.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Create a New Schedule
In the Schedule area, click Add Schedule to create a new entry. The Create Schedule window will open. Assign any name to your Schedule – choose a name that makes it easy for you to identify later.
Step 2: Choose Schedule Type and Marketplace
In the modal, you can select the type in the Schedule Based On field. For BSR, choose Performance Metrics.
In the Marketplaces selection area, choose the correct marketplace profile. BSR data will be pulled exclusively from the selected marketplace. Only one marketplace can be active for a performance schedule at a time.
Tip: Click an already selected marketplace again to deselect or change your choice.
Step 3: Choose BSR KPI
Now, define your performance criteria. Under Performance, select Bestseller Rank (BSR). With Sub-Performance KPI, you decide whether to use Main Category BSR or Subcategory BSR:
Main Category BSR: The ranking refers to your product's main category.
Subcategory BSR: Uses the specific rank within its related subcategory.
Important: These options are available only when the Amazon Selling Partner API is connected.
Step 4: Campaign-Based or Product-Based
Under Apply To (Target), select whether your rules should apply to Campaigns or Products:
Campaigns: Adjustments affect the campaign level – all boost options (bids/budgets) are available here.
Products: Actions apply at the product level. Some boost actions are limited, and status actions are usually the main focus.
Step 5: Action for Category Changes
Under Action on Category Change, define what should happen if your product switches category (and thus its BSR context).
- Continue Schedule: The schedule remains active; settings stay the same and now apply to the new category.
- Reset Boost and Pause Schedule: Previous adjustments revert to the original value, and the schedule stops.
- Pause Schedule: The schedule is fully stopped, and no more changes occur – but previous boosts remain in place.
Tip: If your products change category often, it’s advisable to choose an appropriate action.
Step 6: Refine Target Selection
Set conditions for which units (e.g., campaigns, products, ASINs) should be affected by the schedule. You can select from:
- ASIN: Default for BSR Schedules, allows you to specifically select one or more products.
- Alternatively: Campaign, Product, or Tag – depending on your chosen target.
There are several filter and selection options:
- Conditions: "contains," "does not contain," "is," "is not," "starts with"
- Selector types like search selection, multi-select or select by phrase allow for complex filter combinations.
- Use the “Or” block to define alternative conditions.
Adjust filters as needed, for example by removing or adding keywords, ASINs, or tags to get the desired results.
Step 7: Set BSR Ranges and Actions
Now, define thresholds and the corresponding actions under Time Periods. Usually, you start with the top rank (“1”) and set increasing thresholds such as 1 < 200 < 5,000 < Max.
For each range, you can define one of several actions to be applied when the BSR falls into that specific range:
- Status: Choose to "activate," "pause," or “keep.”
- Increase Bids: Set a percentage increase for bids.
- Increase Budgets: Enter a percentage to raise budgets.
- Increase Budgets & Bids: Adjust both values together.
Please note: Boost Keywords is not available for BSR Schedules. For "Products" as the target, some boost actions are disabled, but status adjustments are always possible.
Click + Add Step to define additional thresholds. The Summary section clearly lists all set ranges and actions.
Be careful not to create too many intermediate steps, as this can significantly increase complexity.
When finished, click Save to create and activate the schedule depending on status. Click Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Settings & Options
Schedule priority is important: If several schedules apply to the same units, conflicts may arise. Watch for warnings like “Schedule contains elements with priority conflict!” and set the correct priority if needed, so it’s always clear which automation takes precedence.
Limitations & Special Notes
- You must have successfully connected the Amazon Selling Partner API to use BSR options.
- Only one marketplace can be selected in a performance schedule at a time.
- The Boost Keywords action is not available for BSR Schedules.
- At the product level, some boost actions are disabled, but status actions like "activate," "pause," and "keep" are always available.
- When changing categories, the schedule is continued or stopped based on your selected action.
Tips & Best Practices
- Start with a few clearly defined BSR thresholds. Try complex automation only after a successful trial period.
- If your products change category frequently, define a meaningful default action for category changes.
- Regularly check if your products' BSR has stabilized – if so, you can reduce the number of thresholds to keep your schedule manageable.
