1. Overview
Keyword Lists allow you to organize multiple keywords into a single list. You can add these lists to campaigns all at once – either as positive or negative keywords. This helps you set up campaigns faster and avoid mistakes by making sure relevant terms are always used or excluded consistently.
2. Accessing the Function
To access Keyword Lists, first open the main menu and navigate to Segment Management. Then, click the Settings button at the top right and select Manage Keyword Lists. This opens an overview of your saved Keyword Lists.
3. Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open the Keyword List Overview
In Settings, select Manage Keyword Lists. The overview shows a table with all your existing Keyword Lists. The table has columns for Name, Number of Keywords, and options to edit or delete each list. You can use the search field to filter for specific list names. If no Keyword Lists exist, you can create one by clicking Create Keyword List.
Step 2.1: Create a New Keyword List
In the overview, click Create Keyword List. A dialog will appear. Enter a suitable name for your list under Keyword List Name (up to 255 characters). In the text field below, enter your keywords separated by commas. Duplicate entries are automatically prevented. Use Save to store your new list and all keywords. To cancel, click Cancel. For special Share of Voice (SOV) lists, your current keyword quota is shown, along with an option to purchase additional credits if needed.
Step 2.2: Edit an Existing Keyword List
To edit a list, click Edit in its row. A dialog will open where you can change the list name (up to 255 characters), add new keywords (comma-separated), or remove existing ones. Removed keywords are deleted once you save. Make sure not to include duplicate keywords or overly long entries. Save your changes by clicking Save.
Step 2.3: Delete a Keyword List
If you want to delete a Keyword List, click the trash can icon (Delete) under Action. A confirmation dialog will appear with the message “Would you like to delete the Keyword List '{name}'?”. The list and all its keywords will be permanently deleted only after your confirmation. Click Cancel to abort. Be sure to only delete lists that aren’t used in active processes.
Step 3: Use Keyword Lists in Campaign Setup
While creating a campaign, you can intentionally add Keyword Lists. In the final step for SPA campaigns, select Keyword Lists and then Select Type to choose whether to add the keywords as Positive or Negative. Positive keywords are included in the campaign, while negative keywords prevent certain search terms from being targeted. You can add a list’s keywords as positive or negative, but not both at once in the same instance.
4. Settings & Options
In the Settings area under Segment Management you’ll find Manage Keyword Lists as well as other options like Keyword Management Settings, which work independently from lists. Within SOV contexts, your current keyword quota is shown; you’ll also see a link to purchase additional credits if needed.
5. Limitations & Special Notes
- Your overview only displays Keyword Lists created with your user account.
- The name of a Keyword List can be no longer than 255 characters.
- Individual keywords are also subject to length limits and cannot be duplicated within a list.
- For Share of Voice (SOV) lists, keep in mind there’s a fixed keyword quota. If you exceed it, you need to buy more credits.
- Deleted Keyword Lists cannot be restored.
6. Tips & Best Practices
- Choose descriptive, concise names for your lists, such as by year, market, or brand. This makes them easy to find with the Search function.
- Keep your Keyword Lists up to date: regularly remove old keywords and add new ones.
- For SOV lists, check your quota before saving so you don’t run into limits during saving.
