Overview
With Keyword Management Rules, you can create your own if-then logic for each segment: you define which data the rule should apply to, what conditions must be met, and which actions should follow. This lets you precisely control when keywords or ASINs are added or set as negative. You can specifically set profiles, marketplaces, and match types so the automation perfectly fits your advertising strategy.
Accessing the Function
In the Segment Management area, select the segment you want. Then click the Actions menu (⋮) on the right. Here you’ll find options such as New Keyword Management or New One Time Rule. If your segment is empty, you can also directly select Create New Keyword Management in the segment card. This will start the rule editor.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Start Keyword Management
In the segment menu, start by selecting New Keyword Management. Give your rule a name; this will appear in the segment overview. Choose the Marketplaces where the rule should apply. Multiple marketplaces can be selected.
Then select 'individual rule' and click 'Next'.
Step 2: Define Conditions
In the next step, specify what the rule refers to and how strictly it should apply. Choose between Match ALL (all conditions of a group must apply) or Match ANY (one condition is enough). For each condition, define values like metric, time range, and comparison type, for example: “ACOS (%) in the last 14 days is greater than 10.”
For each condition, you set various fields:
- Type: Decide whether the rule applies to search terms, targets, or ad groups.
- Field: Choose a metric like “ACOS (%)”, “Clicks”, “Impressions”, “ROAS”, “Total Spend”, “Avg. CPC”, or “Orders”.
- Time Range: Specify if data from the last 7, 14, 30, or 90 days should be considered.
- Comparison: Set whether to check if a value is “greater”, “less”, “equal”, or “not equal” than a target value.
Step 3: Select Match Types
Enable the desired Match Types: your options are Auto, Product, Category, Broad, Phrase, and Exact. The rule only applies to the selected match types. At least one must be enabled.
Step 4: Configure Keyword Management
Move to the Keyword Actions area. Edit the Default Settings or adjust them specifically for this rule. For example, decide from which source (e.g., Auto) new keywords are moved to which target (e.g., Broad, Phrase), and which match type actions (Positive, Neg. Exact, Neg. Phrase, Neg. ASIN) should be executed.
Use the Reset to Default Settings button anytime to revert your changes.
Step 5: Set Campaign Exclusions (Keyword Management Settings)
In the final step Campaign Filter: Exclude Using Custom Syntax, you can enter naming patterns to exclude specific campaigns from keyword harvesting. These exclusions apply to all rules and automations within the same segment.
In the campaign structure preview, you can see how your product’s campaigns are linked for keyword management. Use the input field 'Filter by ASIN' for this.
Step 6: Save & Complete
Finish by clicking Save. After the confirmation “Keyword rule was created successfully!” you’ll find the rule in your segment overview in the Keyword Management area. It is activated immediately.
Settings & Options
- Any changes from the default keyword management settings can be made individually for each rule under Edit Default Settings.
Limitations & Special Notes
- You can create a maximum of 100 rules per segment.
- In the Essential Plan, the New Keyword Management or New One Time Rule options may be locked.
- At least one Match Type must be selected.
Tips & Best Practices
- Use Match ALL for more precise, restrictive rules or Match ANY for broader coverage.
- Use Marketplaces to activate rules for specific markets.
- Check the campaign structure preview in the final step to ensure the right campaigns are linked.
