Overview
This feature lets you group metrics with the same unit – for example, percentages or euro values – in the Chart Creator for a clear overview. You can either combine these values using a shared Y-axis or stack them in a bar chart. This helps make your charts more compact and enables you to directly compare related metrics without crowding the chart with multiple axes or an overwhelming legend.
Accessing the Function
To use axis options for shared axes or stacked values, first open your desired Dashboard. There, click on Add Element to add a new chart. In the Chart Creator, you’ll then find the axis settings within the Axis Options section where you can make these adjustments.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Create a New Chart
Start on your dashboard by clicking Add Element in the top right. This will open the Chart Creator.
Step 2: Choose Chart Type: Select a Chart Type with Axis Options
In the Chart Creator, pick your preferred chart type. Line charts (when using the interactive variant) and bar charts (vertical or horizontal) support axis options. For line charts, axis options appear when the interactive type is activated. Bar charts offer both axis options and the ability to stack values.
Step 3: Open Axis Options: Group Metrics of the Same Unit
Go to Axis Options in the Chart Creator. Here, you can enable the checkbox Assign metrics of the same unit to the same axis. When this is active, all metrics with the same unit (such as all percentages) will be shown on one shared Y-axis. This keeps your chart lean and allows for direct comparison. If you leave this unchecked, metrics with different units will get separate Y-axes. This is helpful when value ranges differ greatly.
Note: In agency accounts, this option becomes available only after at least one company is selected.
Step 4: Stack Values (Bar Charts Only)
For bar charts, you can additionally enable Stack values of the same unit under Axis Options. This stacks all metrics with the same unit per category into a single bar, making totals and proportions immediately visible. If stacking is disabled, values will appear as separate bars side by side.
Important: When you activate stacking, the shared axis for identical units is automatically applied and the axis assignment checkbox is disabled. Metrics with different units cannot be stacked together and will always display separately.
Step 5: Save and Add the Chart to Your Dashboard
Once all settings are configured, save the chart and add it to your dashboard. Your axis assignments and stacking options will be preserved. If you see the message No data available!, please check your filter and date range settings.
Settings & Options
Additional options like Date or Filter under the Temporary section affect only the data displayed in the current chart and are not saved permanently. They help you narrow down your analysis but do not influence your chosen axis or stacking settings.
Limitations & Special Notes
- Axis options are available for line charts (interactive) and bar charts.
- The Stack values of the same unit option is only available for bar charts.
- If stacking is activated, shared axes are automatically applied and the individual assignment is grayed out.
- Only values with the same unit can be stacked.
- A maximum of two Y-axes will be shown at once. If you use more units, their axis titles or scales will be hidden to keep the chart clear.
- Add Element is disabled for users with “View Only” permissions or on AMC Dashboards.
- In agency accounts, axis options are only available after a company has been selected.
- For very large data sets, a warning might appear. In that case, reduce the analysis period or use filters.
Tips & Best Practices
- Enable Stack values of the same unit in bar charts to clearly show totals and category shares.
- For direct comparison of different metrics with the same unit, it’s best to use the shared axis option.
- If you mix units (for example, euro and percent), use separate axes so each scale is clear.
- Keep your charts simple by displaying only a few metrics per chart for better clarity.
- Use Date and Filter in the Temporary section to fine-tune analysis without changing the chart permanently.
