Overview

Keyword Management automates your keyword processes: search terms and keywords are added, excluded, or assigned according to your rules. You can set up your own rules based on the default settings, adjust them as needed, and revert to the defaults at any time. This brings clarity and consistency to all segments, no matter how much or little you want to intervene.

Access to the Feature

You can find the Keyword Management settings via Main Menu > Segment Management. After selecting your segment, go to the rules or automations that have Keyword Management enabled. Then, open the Keyword Management page.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Open Default Settings

In Segment Management, open a rule or automation where Keyword Management is enabled and navigate to Keyword Management. Click on Edit Default Settings to access an overview where you can view and modify the current Keyword Management rules.

Step 2: Review and Adjust Rules

For each rule row, you can make the following settings:

  • For Move from, choose the source match type, such as Auto, Broad, Phrase, Exact, CAT, or PAT. The available destination options depend on your selection.
  • In Move to, set the target match type (e.g., Broad, Phrase, Exact).
  • For each row, set the Keyword Match Type. Here, indicate whether the keyword should be added as Positive or excluded as Neg. Exact, Neg. Phrase, or Neg. ASIN. Available options may differ depending on source and target.
  • For positive rules, you can define the Bid Adjustment. Choose from None, Increase bid by, Decrease bid by (as percentage or fixed amount in euros), Set bid to (fixed value), or an adjustment based on current CPC. After selecting the adjustment type, enter your value.
  • Enable the Broad Match Modifier if you want more accurate broad keywords–this automatically places a “+” before each word.

Note: Some negative match types or the ability to add as Positive may not be available with certain combinations. If the Positive option is disabled, bid adjustments and value fields are automatically set to “None” or 0.

Step 3: Add or Remove Rules

Use the + icon to add rule rows or the icon to remove them. At least one rule must always be present–otherwise, a warning will appear that Keyword Management is not valid.

Step 4: Restore Default Settings

You can return to the system default at any time. Just click Reset to Default Settings.
This will load the predefined default rules, including classic transitions like "Auto to Broad/Phrase/Exact/PAT", "Broad/Phrase to Exact," and practical negative types. Bid Adjustment is set to "None" by default.
After resetting, you can adjust specific rows as needed.

Settings & Options

  • Supported match types: Auto, Broad, Phrase, Exact, CAT, PAT
  • Bid Adjustment can be set as a percentage (%) or euro (€) value

Limitations & Special Cases

  • The available combinations of source and target determine which negative options can be selected
  • With very large rule sets or segments, there may occasionally be short loading times when displaying rules

Tips & Best Practices

  • It’s best to start with the system default (via Reset to Default Settings) and only adjust rules where really necessary
  • Build your rule pipeline logically: “Auto → Broad/Phrase/Exact,” then “Broad/Phrase → Exact,” for example
  • Use the Positive option only where you actively want to scale, and choose bid adjustments carefully
  • Enable the Broad Match Modifier for more control over broad keywords
