Overview
The Filter feature in chart creation or editing lets you set permanent filters for your selected chart. This filter only affects the current chart and stays active unless you apply a temporary filter in your dashboard. Temporary filters will override individual filters as long as they are active.
Accessing the Function
To view organic data, go to Dashboards in the main menu and open the dashboard you want. You can either add a new element where you want to set a filter or edit an existing chart to add filters.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Add a New Element or Open an Existing One
First, go to Dashboards and select the dashboard you want to work with. Click Add Element to start creating a new chart. Alternatively, edit an existing chart by using the context menu under Actions > Configure.
Note: If you only have read permissions, the option to add elements may be grayed out.
Step 2: Configure Chart Type and Basics
Next, define the basic structure of your chart. Here you choose the Chart Type, Date, and Grouping (x-axis). The time interval determines which period is shown for organic metrics. The x-axis grouping controls how values are broken down, for example by day or week.
Step 3: Configure Filters
In the Filter option, a window opens where you can set up several filter rows under Properties. Click + to add another row or – to remove a row (at least one row must remain). Use the Remove All Filters button to reset all criteria.
In each filter row, select the appropriate attribute from the Select criteria dropdown. Depending on your dashboard type, these criteria may be available:
- Marketplace: Select one or more marketplaces, such as Amazon.de or Amazon.fr.
- Profile: Choose one or more profiles (for example, different country accounts shown with country flags).
- ASIN: Add specific ASINs if you want to look at certain products.
- Portfolio: Filter to desired portfolios if your campaigns are organized this way.
- Campaign: Select one or multiple campaigns. If you have over 1000 campaigns, an extra dialog with a search will appear for easy selection.
- Ad Group: Similar to campaigns; a search helps find entries if there are many.
- Tag: Filter by tags you've set to monitor, for example, the performance of bonus-relevant campaigns.
- Ad Type: Choose between “Sponsored Products,” “Sponsored Brands,” and “Sponsored Display.”
- Search Term and Keyword: Enter specific search terms or keywords, including comparison operators such as contains, does not contain, is, is not, or starts with.
- Segment: If segment management is active, you can filter by segment.
For DSP dashboards, you have: DSP Order, DSP Line Item, DSP Creative, DSP Size.
In the Walmart dashboard you might see Walmart Marketplace, Campaign, Ad Group, Keyword, and Product.
Comparison operators let you set filters even more precisely:
- is one of: Select multiple entries from available lists (e.g. markets, tags, or ASINs).
- contains, does not contain, is, is not, starts with: Useful for text-based filters like keywords or search terms.
You can also use a search field within long lists to find entries faster. If nothing matches, you will see “No results found.”
Under the PREVIEW tab you instantly see for how many products or items your selected filters currently apply. This count helps estimate the extent of your filter – like 12 products or “999+” for lots of results.
Some options may not always be available: for example, if Keyword or Search Term is set as the main dimension, some filter functionalities will be grayed out. For DSP or Walmart dashboards, you'll only see criteria relevant to that type.
Step 4: Apply Filters: Update Charts
Click Save to activate your filters. All charts in the dashboard update right away based on your inputs. If you change your mind, you can always click Cancel and all changes will be discarded. Empty or value-less filter rows are ignored automatically.
Step 5: Identify Filter Status
After saving, the Filter button displays which filters are active. Click Filter again to open the modal with your current settings. You can remove rows, add criteria, or use Remove All Filters to clear everything.
Note: Individual filters in dashboards are overwritten by temporary filters, so only the temporary one applies to the chart.
Settings & Options
You can create filters from a wide range of criteria and chain them with “+” for an AND condition. The “Remove All Filters” button deletes all filter rows so you can start over.
Limitations & Special Notes
- With very large lists of campaigns or ad groups (over 1000), a dedicated selection dialog with search appears.
- Some combinations are not usable: there are filters that cannot be selected together with "Keyword" or "Search Term" as an active dimension.
- With "View" permissions, certain features like adding more charts may be disabled – filters remain usable as long as the dashboard is accessible.
Tips & Best Practices
- Start filtering with Marketplace or Profile to immediately narrow down the data range.
- Use the search fields in selection lists to quickly find campaigns, ad groups, or ASINs among many entries.
- Combine Tag with Ad Type to focus on, for example, only "Sponsored Brands" for specific labels.
- Check the PREVIEW before saving to ensure your selection provides the right data base.
