What exactly is an ad segment and what is the difference to a product segment? What functions are there?

With ad segments, you can quickly and easily create cross-product automations and individual rules for individual, several specific or all campaigns.

What exactly are ad segments? 

An ad segment is a unit in which you can create automations and individual rules. When creating the ad segment, you can select the campaigns to which the automations and rules should apply. With ad segments, you can quickly and easily create cross-product automations and individual rules for individual, several specific or all campaigns. 

What is the difference to a product segment?

You can group products in product segments. With product segments, you can therefore better control advertising at product level, and product segments are also required for keyword management. Ad segments are suitable if you want to automate certain campaigns, match types or all campaigns etc., i.e. at campaign level. - In other words, you want to automate them at campaign level.
