Overview

Ad segments are groups or collections of campaigns. They allow you to logically organize your campaigns and apply automations and rules to them. This saves you time, increases clarity, and enables consistent adjustments to your advertising structure.

Accessing the Function

To create a new ad segment, go to Segment Management. In the overview of your segments, you’ll find the Add Segment button at the top right.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Start a New Segment – Create Segment

Click Add Segment. The New Segment dialog opens, guiding you step by step through the required fields.

In the field with the placeholder Segment Name, enter a descriptive name for your segment. The name should reflect the use and content of the segment for easy identification later on.

Example: “Brand Campaigns Q3” or “ASINs Bestsellers 2024”

You cannot save a segment without entering a name.

Step 2: Choose Matching Logic – Control How Conditions Are Linked

First, decide how the selected conditions should relate to each other:

  • Match ALL: All criteria must be met for an item to be included in the segment. Use this for precise filtering.
Example: Only campaigns from “Portfolio A” that advertise products with the tag “Retargeting” will be included.
  • Match ANY: It’s sufficient if at least one condition is met. This setting is ideal for broader groupings.
Example: Campaigns from “Portfolio A” or campaigns that advertise products with the tag “Retargeting” are included.

As soon as you select one of these options, the preview of the found items updates automatically.

Step 3: Select Criteria – Define Segment Contents

Now, define which items the segment should contain by adding conditions. Different options are available for each condition:

  • Campaign Name: Filter by campaign name. Select a comparison operator and enter the value.
  • Ad Group Name: Filter by the ad group name.
  • Targeting: Filter by specific targets, either keywords or ASINs.
  • Portfolio: Relates to the campaign’s portfolio.
  • Tag: Select from existing tags already assigned to campaigns.
  • ASIN: Enter an ASIN to include specific products.
  • Focus: Filter based on assigned focus.
  • All Campaigns: Adds all campaigns to the segment. Other selection fields will be deactivated.

For each criterion, you also choose a comparison operator:

  • contains: The element contains the string. Example: “Campaign – contains – Brand”
  • does not contain: The element does not contain the string. Example: “Target – does not contain – broad”
  • is: Exact match. Example: “ASIN – is – B07XQXZXJC”
  • is not: Exact mismatch. Example: “Portfolio – is not – Promotions”
  • starts with: Beginning of the string. Example: “Campaign – starts with – Special”

Add as many criteria as needed. You can combine several criteria to narrow down the segment as required.

Step 4: Check the Preview – Review Before Saving

Use the preview to check how many entries are in the segment. In the box Your Segment Contains X Entries you’ll see the exact number. If the items aren’t correct, adjust your conditions.

Step 5: Save the Segment – Finish Creation

If all settings are correct, click Save. After confirmation, the new segment will appear at the top of your list and is available right away.

Settings & Options

You can also create a new segment directly from the segment list using Add Segment. After successful creation, you can activate and adjust Automation & Rules individually for each segment. This way, you can control specific automation processes for each segment setup.

Limitations & Special Notes

  • Required fields when creating a segment: a segment name and at least one valid condition.
  • Newly created segments always appear at the top of the overview list. The order determines their priority.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Give each segment a clear, descriptive name so its purpose and coverage are immediately obvious.
  • For beginners, using the Match ALL setting is recommended to avoid segments that are too broad.
  • Always check the preview before saving to avoid segments that are too large or irrelevant.
